What is the difference between a hoist and a crane?

A hoist is a lifting component that raises and lowers a load vertically, typically mounted on a fixed point or trolley. A crane is a complete machine that includes a hoist, plus structure (like a bridge or jib), wheels or rails for horizontal movement, and controls. In short, all cranes use hoists, but a hoist alone cannot move loads horizontally.

At Chunhua Crane Export, we supply both: electric hoists (0.5T–150T) and full cranes—overhead, gantry, jib, and smart unmanned systems. For example, our LD single-girder crane integrates a CD/MD hoist, while our QD double-girder uses heavier-duty hoists for 5T–150T loads. Need help choosing?
